Cookie Policy
This policy explains what cookies and similar technologies we use, why we use them, and how you can manage them.
1. What are cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device (computer, phone, or tablet) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, remember your preferences, and understand how visitors use the site.
Similar technologies include local storage and session storage, which work in a comparable way. When we say “cookies” in this policy, we mean cookies and these similar technologies.
Under GDPR Art. 13, we must inform you about the cookies we use at the moment you access our site. This policy gives you that information.
2. Types of cookies we use
A) Essential cookies
These cookies are necessary for the website to function. They enable core features such as security, account access, and session management. Without these cookies, the site cannot work properly.
Examples include:
- Keeping you signed in during a session (Supabase auth)
- Remembering your cookie consent preference so we do not ask on every visit
- Processing your membership or event registration
You cannot opt out of essential cookies. If you block them, parts of the site will not work.
B) Analytics cookies
These cookies help us understand how visitors use our website, so we can improve the experience. They collect information such as which pages you visit, how long you spend on the site, and whether you encounter any errors.
Analytics cookies are only set after you have given consent through our cookie banner. You can withdraw that consent at any time.
We use PostHog for analytics. See section 4 for how PostHog handles your data.
C) Marketing and advertising cookies
We do not use marketing or advertising cookies on theproductconsortium.com.
3. Cookie details
The following table lists the cookies and similar storage mechanisms we use, what they do, and how long they last.
| Name | Category | Purpose | Lifespan |
|---|---|---|---|
sb-access-token sb-refresh-token | Essential | Supabase authentication. Keeps you signed in across page visits. | Session (or up to 30 days with refresh) |
ph_phc_* (PostHog persistence cookie) | Analytics | Distinguishes returning visitors and associates events with an anonymous distinct ID. Only set after you consent to analytics via our cookie banner. | Up to 12 months. Cleared if you withdraw consent. |
ph_session (PostHog session storage) | Analytics | Ties activity to a browsing session to improve measurement quality. Only set after you consent to analytics via our cookie banner. | Session (cleared when you close your browser) |
tpc_cookie_consent(localStorage) | Essential | Remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies, so we do not ask on every visit. | Stored until you change your preference or clear site data. |
We do not use any other cookies beyond those listed above at this time. If this changes, we will update this policy and notify you where appropriate.
4. Third-party processors
PostHog
Our analytics are provided by PostHog, Inc., a third-party processor based in the United States. When you consent to analytics, we instruct PostHog to process usage data (such as page views and events) on our behalf.
What PostHog processes
When analytics is enabled, PostHog may set the cookies listed in the table above and use browser storage to distinguish visitors, maintain session continuity, and deliver analytics features.
Cross-border transfers
When analytics is enabled, event data is sent to PostHog's service endpoints (typically US-hosted infrastructure). That processing involves cross-border transfers of data from your location to the United States.
We rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) where required by law. PostHog acts as our data processor for the analytics you consent to. PostHog's own privacy and cookie documentation is available at posthog.com/privacy.
Supabase
Authentication on our site uses Supabase, a backend service operated by Supabase, Inc. (US). Supabase sets auth cookies as described in the table above. These are essential cookies required for you to sign in and maintain your session.
For more on Supabase's cookie practices, see supabase.com/privacy.
5. Managing cookies
When you first visit our site, you will see a cookie banner asking for your consent to analytics cookies. You can:
- Accept analytics cookies
- Decline analytics cookies (essential cookies will still be set)
- Change your preference at any time via our cookie settings
If you decline analytics, we do not initialise PostHog on your device and those analytics cookies are not set.
Most browsers also allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can see what cookies are stored, delete them, block them from all or certain sites, or clear all cookies when you close the browser.
If you block or delete cookies, some parts of this website may not work properly — for example, you may need to sign in again each time you visit.
