The roadmap is one of the most contested artifacts in product management. In theory, it is a strategic communication tool that aligns the organisation around what matters most. In practice, it often devolves into a feature delivery timeline that creates false expectations, drives scope creep, and rewards output over outcomes.
At PR_D_CT DAY 2025 in Ghent, Matti Desmet from Peripass presented a practical talk on building roadmaps that actually drive impact. Drawing on his experience at Peripass, a Belgian yard management platform, Matti shared the specific techniques his team uses to ensure their roadmap is a tool for strategic alignment rather than a project management spreadsheet in disguise.
The talk resonated with an audience that had collectively suffered through years of roadmap dysfunction: the endless renegotiation, the feature requests disguised as strategic priorities, and the quarterly ritual of explaining why the roadmap changed again.
