Qualitative research is the foundation of product discovery. It is how product teams understand customer problems, uncover unmet needs, and generate insights that quantitative data alone cannot provide. Yet in practice, most product teams treat qualitative research as a checkbox exercise: conduct five interviews, extract a few quotes, and move on to building.
At PR_D_CT DAY 2023, Timote Geimer, CEO of dualoop, presented a talk that challenged the audience to take qualitative research seriously as a craft rather than treating it as a step in a process. dualoop specialises in helping product teams conduct rigorous qualitative research, and Timote's perspective was grounded in years of watching teams do it poorly and helping them do it well.
The talk was especially timely for a product community that has embraced continuous discovery but has not always invested in the quality of the research that discovery depends on.
